Viewers and Players

Most of the links on our site point to standard HTML pages, but some point to files in other formats. You may need additional software or browser plug-ins to access some of these resources. Below we list the various non-HTML formats referenced on this site, along with links to freely available plug-ins or viewers for these file types.

Documents

  • Portable Document Format (.pdf) files
    Download Acrobat Reader External Link (Windows and Macintosh). PDF files can also be viewed on smartphones, tablets, and e-Readers. Instructions for doing this are device-specific so check the documentation for your device.
  • Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) documents
    • Download Word mobile app External Link (Windows and Macintosh)
    • Download Apache OpenOffice External Link (Windows and Macintosh)
      OpenOffice is an open-source office productivity software suite. Its default file format is the OpenDocument Format (ODF), but it can read a wide variety of other file formats, including Microsoft Word documents.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt/.pps) files
  • eBooks (.epub and .mobi)
    If you are viewing an OITE publication from a browser on an eBook device, the document will open automatically. Select the appropriate version for your device. If you are on a smartphone or tablet, you will need a mobile e-Reader app to view eBook files. Many e-Reader apps exist, and OITE does not endorse any particular one. To find one that fits your needs, simply search the Web entering the keywords "free mobile e-Reader app."
