Writing Style

Writing for the Web follows the Department's style, which is based on the AP Stylebook.

Plain Language Standards

The Plain Writing Act of 2010 requires federal agencies to write "clear Government communication that the public can understand and use."

Accessible Interfaces

A well-designed product is accessible to users of all abilities, including those with low vision, blindness, hearing impairments or motor impairments. Accessibility enables people with disabilities to perceive and interact with systems and applications.

Help Downloading Files

In most cases, files on the OER web site are provided in an accessible HTML web format (see Accessibility page). When other file formats are used (such as PDF, RTF, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or RealPlayer), postings are annotated with the corresponding file format and a link to this page is provided.
