Opportunities for Veterans

A man wearing normal business attire on one half and a military uniform on the other halfTo assist veterans seeking employment, Selective Service joined other federal agencies committed to taking extra steps to hire them through the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA’s) VA for Vets program. This program aligns with President Obama’s executive order establishing an interagency council on veterans’ employment to promote opportunities for veterans and meet the federal government’s staffing needs for highly skilled individuals.

Internships


A group of young women working on a computerOn December 27, 2010, President Obama signed Executive Order (E.O.) 13562 establishing the Pathways Programs, to provide clear paths to federal employment for students and recent graduates. On May, 11, 2012, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), issued the final regulations implementing the Pathways Programs, in the Federal Register/Vol. 77, No. 92/May 11, 2012. The Pathways Programs consists of three components, which are the Internship Program, the Recent Graduates Program, and the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program. The new streamlined Pathways Programs replaces the Student Temporary Employment and Student Career Experience Programs and enhances the Presidential Management Fellows Program.

Selective Service's Pathways Programs provide opportunities for students and recent graduates to be considered for federal employment through:

  • Selective Service Pathways Intern Employment Program;
  • Selective Service Pathways Recent Graduates Program; and
  • Selective Service Pathways Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program.

Important Information:

  1. Vacancy announcements will be posted to USAJOBS for all Pathways Programs positions.
  2. Applications for Pathways Programs positions will only be accepted through USAJOBS.
  3. Candidates will be assessed based on valid, job-related assessments for all positions related to the specific Pathways Program, using OPM qualification standards and in accordance with the requirements of 5 CFR Part 302.
  4. Qualified candidates will be rated and ranked under category rating procedures.
  5. Veterans’ preference will be applied appropriately, in accordance with 5 CFR Part 302.
