Policyholders: Help with or without a disaster declaration

(Español) Asegurados: Ayuda con o sin una declaración de desastre

This page explains what National Flood Insurance Program policyholders need to be aware of and available options if there is or is not a Presidential Disaster Declaration after a flood event that causes flood damage to their property.

STEP ONE: File Your Flood Claim Right Away

Flood insurance claims can be paid with or without a Presidential Disaster Declaration, so if you have flood damage go ahead and start your flood insurance claim.

NFIP flood insurance policyholders are encouraged to apply for FEMA disaster assistance when there is an official Presidential Disaster Declaration (check to see if there's an official declaration). See below for more information about how to register for federal disaster assistance.

Register for Disaster Assistance

The National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) policies do not cover additional living expenses. However, flood insurance policyholders could be found eligible for federal disaster assistance which can help pay for things like temporary housing assistance or other needs. The only way to know if you are eligible for this assistance is to apply. Learn more.
