Offshore Safety Improvement Branch

The Offshore Safety Improvement Branch provides national-level oversight of Bureau’s Safety Inspection Program, and ensures that BSEE meets its statutory mandate to provide annual inspection of oil and gas drilling rigs and production facilities on the Outer Continental Shelf.

The branch is responsible for aviation management, managing the Potential Incident of Noncompliance Pacific Oil Platform(PINC) list, renewable energy initiatives, and the Safety and Environmental Management Systems, and safety inspections.

In addition to providing annual inspections that examine all safety equipment, including electrical, and those that prevent blowouts, fires, spills, or other major incidents. The Safety Inspection Team has launched a risk-based model for regulatory inspections.

Implements the Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS), a performance-focused tool for integrating and managing offshore operations.

BSEE's Aviation program promotes aviation safety, consistent and efficient aviation policy, guidance, operational risk management, and aviation safety awareness for all aviation users. See the annual National Aviation Management Plan and the SAFECOM Summary for more information.
