HIV/AIDS: Research Information

The NICHD is one of several NIH Institutes and other federal entities that supports and conducts research on HIV/AIDS. The Institute has a particular focus on women (including pregnant women), infants, children, and adolescents. The NICHD conducts and supports research on HIV infection, treatment, and prevention in its populations of interest.

The NICHD's portfolio covers a variety of topics in HIV/AIDS. These include HIV pathogenesis, epidemiology and demographics, prevention, and treatment. Co-occurring diseases are also included in the NICHD's HIV/AIDS research interests. The Institute also supports professional training and the development of research infrastructure that will facilitate research in HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.
