Hospital-Based Safe to Sleep Program

To ensure health providers in Georgia implement and model safe sleep practices, the Georgia Safe to Sleep campaign is recruiting birthing hospitals to adopt the Hospital-Based Safe to Sleep Program.

This program encourages birthing centers in Georgia to model and proactively discuss infant sleeping practices with new parents and caregivers before they leave the hospital. It also provides families in need access to onesies and travel bassinets to reinforce behaviors that align with national safe sleep recommendations.

Goals of the Hospital-based Safe to Sleep Program:

  • Provide accurate and consistent safe infant sleep information to hospital personnel including medical, nursing, breastfeeding, child birth education and nutrition staff members
  • Enable hospitals to implement and model safe infant sleep practices throughout their facility
  • Provide guidance to health care staff on addressing safe infant sleep concerns and issues
  • Reduce infant mortality attributed to sleep-related infant deaths

Take the Safe to Sleep Pledge

There are more than 70 birthing hospitals in Georgia, each one of them touching the lives of thousands of new babies, parents and caregivers.

Every day, health providers in these birthing centers have the ability to lead their community members in understanding how to protect Georgia’s most vulnerable citizens from SIDS and other sleep-related infant deaths.

Your hospital can join them in this exciting effort.
