Fishery Management
U.S. fisheries are governed by regulations issued under the Magnuson–Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. The regulatory regime conserves fishery resources, supports enforcement of international fishing agreements, promotes conservation principles, and implements regional fishery management plans to achieve optimal yield. Regional Fishery Management Councils develop fisheries, protect fish habitats, consider social and economics needs of states, and enable stake-holders to participate in the administration of fisheries.
