Entering claim number
When logging in to SOL, you must enter every character of your claim number, which begins with A or F. Please contact us or refer to your Retirement Services ID Card for your claim number. You may also find your claim number on most correspondence received from OPM.
For your first login to SOL, your password will be the temporary password issued to you by OPM through the mail. During that session, you will establish a secure password for future logins.
Note: If you are a representative payee, guardian, conservator, or any other third party representing an OPM annuitant, you cannot use SOL. Please contact our Retirement Operations Center for further information at 1-888-767-6738 or you can send an email to retire@opm.gov.
Forgotten password
If you receive the message that the combination of numbers you have entered do not match, please make sure you use the temporary numeric password we sent you when requesting access to SOL. Please refer to information about how to contact us for assistance.
If you receive a message that we are unable to provide you access to the website because we are unable to identify your records, please contact us for assistance.
If you are receiving regular payments and you have not received your temporary numeric password or you have lost your current password. Select the Forgot Password? link under the Password field on the Services Online Login page. The Reset Password Request page loads, along with the alert against generating duplicate requests.
You can request a password by either Email or by Mail. You must know your claim number, last name, and city that is on file at OPM.
To receive a password by email, you must have an email address on file within SOL and you must have already established and be able to answer your personal security questions.
For security reasons, you cannot use the online password request system to request a temporary password if your account has not been accessed within a 15 month period or if your account has been deactivated. You must contact our Retirement Operations Center at 1-888-767-6738 and speak to a customer service agent to request a new password.
Do not request a new Password if:
- You have already requested a password by mail within the last 7 days.
- You have already requested a password by email within the last 24 hours.
- You have called the Retirement Operations Center and requested a new password.
By requesting a new password in any of the above instances, you will further delay your access to SOL.
Changing your password
You can change your password by selecting the "Change" button in the Password and Security section on the Manage User Profile page. The page lists the dates that the password was last changed and when the next change is required by, 15 months in the future. low the Password field on the SOL Login Page. SOL Menu after you access the website with your existing password. We recommend that you change your password to something easy to remember and safeguard it against unauthorized access and use.
Remember to keep the following in mind when selecting your new password:
- Minimum of 8 characters.
- Maximum of 30 characters.

Must contain at least one of each of the following character groups:
- A-Z (Upper Case Letters)
- a-z (Lower Case Letters)
- 0-9 (Numbers)
- May contain certain special characters @, $, %, &, *, +, =, ?, <, >.
Do not select a password that can be easily guessed by others. Protect your password. If you write it down, safeguard it.
After entering your temporary numeric password, you will be asked to verify your new password by entering it once more. After you have entered your new password a second time, press the Save New Password button.
If you select Cancel, you will return to the Main Menu without processing a request for a new password.
Where do I find my claim number?
Your claim number is shown on your Retirement Services Card that was mailed to you when you retired.
Your claim number can be found on documents from OPM, for example, your annuity statement, 1099R tax statement, and your retirement benefit booklet.
What information should I enter?
Do not enter any dashes, spaces, or extra characters.
Enter the claim number beginning with A or F and the numeric seven digit claim number and the suffix.
How do I know what to enter for the suffix?
The suffix is the number or letter shown after your seven digit claim number that can be found on your Retirement Services Card, for annuitants this is usually a 0 (zero) and for survivor annuitants this is usually a W. (A00000000) (F0000000W)
