Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): Clinical Trials

The NICHD conducts and supports a variety of clinical research related to TBI. Select a link below to learn more about these projects.

Featured NICHD Clinical Trials

  • fMRI and NIRS Imaging for Traumatic Brain Injury
This trial compares the more common brain imaging method, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), with a less-common method known as near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Researchers will test both methods in people with TBI to see whether they provide similar results.
  • An Acute Neurobehavioral Program for Improving Functional Status After TBI
The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a 10-session acute-care intervention designed to improve the functional status of patients with TBI. Therapeutic components of the program include cognitive remediation, demonstration, guided self-reflection, rehearsal, and supported practice of skills and strategies.
