KALĀHEO – Firefighters responded to a structure fire that broke out Thursday afternoon along Kaumuali‘i Highway in Kalāheo.

LĪHU‘E – Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami has signed a sixth supplementary emergency proclamation on Thursday, Jan. 3, for the County of Kaua‘i, extending the emergency relief period for damages sustained during the flood of April 2018.

KAPA‘A – County officials are announcing that a portion of Kapahi Road in the vicinity of Kawaihau Road and Halakahiki Place will be closed for road reconstruction work on Jan. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather pending.

The Flash Flood Warning for the islands of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau has expired, according to the National Weather Service. However, Kūhiō Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge remains closed until further notice due to flooding. The highway will reopen as soon as it is safe for travel.

LĪHU‘E – A Fifth Circuit Grand Jury indicted Stephen Kaliko Makanani, 33, on Wednesday, and charged him with one count of Sexual Assault in the First Degree for an incident that allegedly took place in August of this year.

LĀWA‘I – A Lāwa‘i man, age 85, died from his injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Kaumuali‘i Highway in Lāwa‘i Wednesday morning.

County officials are reminding the public that the solid waste staging area located at Kepuhi Point is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PRINCEVILLE – The search for a missing woman in waters off Queen’s Bath in Princeville was suspended Saturday afternoon following a three-day, multi-agency effort.

KAPA'A – The Department of Water (DOW) has announced an emergency water service shutdown for customers located on Wana’ao Road and Helena Lane in Kapa’a for approximately 4 to 5 hours.  DOW crews are conducting repairs to a recent distribution line break in the area.

PRINCEVILLE – The search for a missing woman in waters off Queen’s Bath in Princeville will continue Friday.

The Kaua‘i Police Department is urging the public to be vigilant after three students were approached by a stranger in separate incidents near Hanalei and ‘Ele‘ele elementary schools.

PRINCEVILLE – Rescuers are searching for a 23-year-old California woman in waters off Queen’s Bath in Princeville.

LĪHU‘E – A woman is in critical condition following a two-car crash that occurred on Kaumuali‘i Highway in Līhu‘e on Friday night.

‘ELE‘ELE – The Kaua‘i County Housing Agency held a blessing for the Lima Ola affordable housing project in ‘Ele‘ele on Monday.  In addition to blessing the future site of the project, KCHA also celebrated the completion and approvals of land entitlements and permitting which gave Lima Ola the approval to proceed. 

LĪHU‘E – Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho Jr. held a ceremony Friday morning to award a total of $500,000 in grants to six nonprofit community organizations continuing flood recovery work in the aftermath of the historic April flood.

Carvalho Jr. and representatives from the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency, Kaua‘i Fire Department, Kaua‘i Police Department, the County Information Technology Division and contractor Modtech Solutions unveiled on Wednesday the recently-installed grant-funded upgrades to the county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

KAPA‘A – Four people were arrested Friday morning, after attempting to flee from police then crashing into a utility pole on Kūhiō Highway in Kapa‘a.

HANAPĒPĒ - Officials responded to an emergency landing of a plane owned by Skydive Kaua‘i on Monday morning, in which four parachute jumpers deployed and landed safely without injuries.

LĪHU‘E – The Department of Public Works is announcing a road closure of Haleko Road on Thursday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow Maui Kupuno Builders to perform road construction work, weather permitting.
