AMS Reorganization

On September 7, 2017, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced the realignment of a number of offices within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) and several program areas from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) joined the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) to help us better meet the needs of farmers, ranchers, and producers, while providing improved customer service and maximize efficiency.

Federal Grain Inspection Service

The International Food Aid Commodity Procurement program from the Farm Service Agency, has merged into the AMS Commodity Procurement Program.  The enlarged AMS Commodity Procurement Program consolidates USDA commodity procurement, and allows for greater efficiencies in the acquisition of food commodities.

GIPSA’s Federal Grain Inspection Service is now a program within AMS. The new Fair Trade Practices Program includes the Country of Original Labeling Program and the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) Program from AMS, and GIPSA’s Packers and Stockyards Program and the responsibility for the United States Warehouse Act Program and Commodity Credit Corporation warehousing and commodity management activities which were formally part of FSA.
