Battery recycling and free composting bins are available. (Compost bin distribution is on Friday from 8:00 am-3:30 pm)

The Kauai Resource Center is no longer accepting the following items, businesses please bring them to Garden Isle Disposal located at 2666 Niumalu Rd. in Lihue.  Open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm, closed for lunch from 11-12, and open on Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm.  Call 245-2372 for more information. Residents, please use your local Kauai Recycles drop bins for your recycling needs.

ITEMS ACCEPTED at Garden Isle Disposal: cardboard, newspaper, mixed paper, glass, plastic #1 & #2, steel and aluminum cans.

 

 

The Kauai Resource Center

The Kaua'i Resource Center was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, and is managed by the County of Kaua'i Solid Waste Division. This facility has expanded waste diversion opportunities on Kaua'i and created jobs in recycling. It also houses offices for Recycling staff who carry out waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting education programs.

The Kaua'i Resource Center includes:

  • A public reference library on waste diversion
  • FREE packing peanuts and bubble wrap reuse
  • FREE Alkaline, Lithium & NiCad battery residents only recycling
  • Location of Free Compost Bin distribution.  Drop by on Fridays 8 am - 3:30 pm to watch a 10 minute instructional training video and pick-up a FREE compost bin. 

Recycling at the Kauai Resource Center

The following items are NO LONGER accepted at this location. Businesses can go to Garden Isle Disposal located at 2666 Niumalu Rd. in Lihue for recycling:

* Mixed Paper (incl. magazines, junk mail, food boxes, etc.) * Cardboard * Newspaper * Plastic #1 * Plastic #2 * Aluminum * Steel Cans * Glass

Residents can drop off their recycling at the closest Kauai Recycles drop bin.

Facility Tours

The Kaua'i Resource Center is open to residents, schools, and community organizations for facility tours.

An appointment is necessary, and tours may be limited by group size. Please call (808) 241-4841 to schedule a tour.

Contact Information

The Kauai Resource Center fronts the Lihue Transfer Station on Ahukini Road.  The Resource Center is approximately 1/2 mile past the airport arrivals/departures lane on your way to Ahukini Pier, and is marked on the left side of the road.
