Hoosier Children Caught in the Opioid Crisis

The Children's Commission partnered with Purdue University and the Consortium of Family Organizations to bring research on the intersection of addictions and child welfare to Indiana on November 20, 2018. Watch the recording here.  

Next Meeting

The Commission's next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Indiana Government Center South, 302 W Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46204, in Conference Room A. The meeting will also be webcast.

Children’s Commission reaches 5-year mark, annual report shows focus on helping vulnerable youth

The annual report for the Commission on Improving the Status of Children in Indiana is now available. The report details collaboration among all three branches of government working to improve the lives of Hoosier children, especially the most vulnerable.

Information Sharing Guide Reaches 50,000 Interactions

This mobile-friendly guide summarizes how specific types of information about children and families can be shared between professionals, which parties can share this information, and who can receive the information. Visit the mobile app

Commercially Sexually Exploited Children

The Commission adopted a report and recommendations on the authority of law enforcement to detain a child suspected to be a victim of human trafficking. The report contains five recommendations for training and further study.

Safe Sleep

Nearly all SUIDs deaths involve unsafe sleeping conditions for infants. If you or someone you know is in need of a safe place for an infant to sleep, click here. Zero Suicide Academy

The Commission endorses the Zero Suicide Academy, a training program for hospital emergency departments and community mental health centers, focused on changing policies, procedures, and practices to ensure that suicidal patients get the care they need and do not "fall through the cracks." Zero Suicide is an evidence-based approach being adopted statewide in Indiana.

Healthy Pregnancy App

The Indiana State Department of Health released a new mobile application aimed at improving infant and maternal health in Indiana. The free app is called Liv, and promotes early prenatal care and education about pregnancy. It includes interactive calendar and journal features, more than 100 articles, checklists and how-to's based on best medical practices, and links to community resources.
