Statewide Transfer General Education Core
Statewide Transfer General Education Core (STGEC) - Created by the 2012 General Assembly
The Statewide Transfer General Education Core consists of 30 semester hours of credit, the completion of which at one public institution means it can transfer as a block and count as satisfying the Statewide Transfer General Education Core equivalent at the receiving institution.
Some majors may require a student to take more advanced courses as part of the Core, e.g. engineering requires the students to take Calculus rather than Finite Math.
The STGEC is based on competencies and learning outcomes in six areas:
Foundational Intellectual Skills
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Speaking and Listening
- Written Communication
Ways of Knowing
- Humanistic and Artistic
- Scientific
- Social and Behavioral
