CASE TRACKER

You can use Case Tracker to follow the status of your E-Verify case.

In most cases when an employer creates an E-Verify case query, E-Verify responds with the phrase “Employment Authorized” within seconds. When that happens, the employer closes the case and no further action is required.

Occasionally, an employer may inform you that your E-Verify case received a Tentative Nonconfirmation (TNC). A TNC means that the information your employer entered in E-Verify from your Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, did not match available records. If you have received a TNC, it is very important that you follow the steps described in the Further Action Notice that you will receive from your employer. You can use Case Tracker to see the status of your case in progress.

How to Use Case Tracker

To access the Case Tracker feature, you do not need a myE-Verify account. However, if you have one, you may use this feature whether logged in to your account or not.

To track a case, you must first have your E-Verify case verification number. Find this number on the Further Action Notice that your employer will give you if you receive a Tentative Nonconfirmation (TNC). Begin by entering your case verification number on the Track My Case Web page and click "Submit".

There are eight different responses you may receive when you use Case Tracker. Below are the possible responses:

  1. Employment Authorization Confirmed – E-Verify has confirmed that you are authorized to work in the United States.
  2. DHS Verification in Process – E-Verify needs additional time to verify your employment eligibility. Your case has been referred to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for further verification. No action is necessary at this point.
  3. SSA Tentative Nonconfirmation – Your information did not match records available to the Social Security Administration (SSA). Additional action is required.
  4. DHS Tentative Nonconfirmation – Your information did not match records available to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Additional action is required.
  5. Employer Action Required – The employer must take additional action in E-Verify before the verification process can continue.
  6. Employment Authorization Not Confirmed – Unfortunately, E-Verify cannot confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States at this time.
  7. Case Referred to SSA – Your employer has referred your case to the Social Security Administration (SSA). If you would like to resolve this case, you must visit an SSA field office within 8 Federal Government working days of the date your case was referred to begin resolving the Tentative Nonconfirmation (TNC).
    • If you see this response, your employer should have provided you with the Further Action Notice and the Referral Date Confirmation from E-Verify. The SSA TNC Further Action Notice includes information about your E-Verify case and which documents you need when you visit SSA. The Referral Date Confirmation provides the date by which you must visit SSA. To resolve the TNC, you must bring the SSA TNC Further Action Notice when you visit an SSA field office. Federal Government working days are Monday through Friday except for federal holidays.
  8. Your employer has referred your case to DHS. If you would like to resolve this case, you must contact DHS within 8 Federal Government working days of the date your case was referred to begin resolving your Tentative Nonconfirmation (TNC).
    • If you see this response, your employer should have provided you the Further Action Notice and the Referral Date Confirmation from E-Verify. The DHS TNC Further Action Notice includes information about your E-Verify case. The Referral Date Confirmation provides the date by which you must call DHS. To resolve the TNC, you must have the DHS TNC Further Action Notice when you call DHS. Federal Government working days are Monday through Friday except for federal holidays.
