William Zito

Official FEMA photo of Mr. William Zito - Deputy Chief of StaffMr. William Zito was sworn in as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on June 25, 2018. Mr. Zito joins FEMA with over 27 years of military and Congressional leadership experience.

Mr. Zito most recently served on Capitol Hill as Chief of Staff for Representative Pete Olson (TX-22), Representative Kay Granger (TX-12), and as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Representative John Carter (TX-31).

Mr. Zito honorably served in the United States Army from 1991-2013. Throughout his 22 plus years of service, Mr. Zito served domestically and abroad—most notably in Germany, Oklahoma, Texas, South Korea, Kuwait, Washington, and three combat tours in Baghdad, Iraq. During his service, Mr. Zito was selected for the Defense Congressional Fellowship Program in 2011 as one of the first Command Sergeants Majors accepted to the program, and conducted a yearlong fellowship on Capitol Hill for Representative John Carter. Following the fellowship, Mr. Zito served as a Congressional Liaison Officer for the U.S. Army in the House Liaison Division. He retired from the Armed Services and returned to Representative Carter’s office as Deputy Chief of Staff. Among Bill’s most significant awards from the military are the Legion of Merit, three Bronze Star medals, the Combat Action Badge, the Drill Sergeant Badge and a Presidential Unit Citation.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security from Excelsior College, a Masters of Arts in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University, and a Masters of Professional Studies in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University.

Bill is married to Christine Zito, a Registered Nurse, and together they have three children.
