Take out your scheduler now and block out Thursday, June 27, 2019. That’s the date of the FTC’s fourth annual PrivacyCon and you’ll want to be in on the action.
PrivacyCon brings together internationally renowned privacy and security experts to discuss their recent research. PrivacyCon encourages productive cross-talk among gurus in related fields and helps FTC staff stay in the loop on the latest.
If you’re interested in presenting at PrivacyCon 2019, the deadline for applying is March 15, 2019. The event page includes details on what you need to do.
We’re looking for presentations on a broad range of empirical research related to consumer privacy and security, with a focus on the economics driving those issues. The call for presentations poses several specific questions:
- What new issues arise from emerging technologies like the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality?
- What are the greatest threats to consumer privacy today?
- How do you quantify the costs and benefits to consumers of keeping data about them private?
- What are the incentives for manufacturers and software developers to implement privacy and security by design? What about incentives exist to keep security up to date?
- Is there evidence that the market is able to provide efficient levels of privacy and data security?
PrivacyCon 2019 will take place at the FTC’s Constitution Center conference center, located at 400 7th Street, S.W., in Washington, DC. (It’s steps from the L’Enfant Plaza Metro.) The free event is open to the public – and yes, we’ll webcast it. More details as the date approaches.
