Veteran Health Indiana

Health Education

We believe we should give all Veterans quality, easy to understand health information.  It’s your right and responsibility to know how to manage any your health problems.

We help you learn how to take good care of yourself and take part in your health care.

Health Information Inside the Medical Center

The Patient Education and Wellness display just inside the Atrium door holds the Spotlight on Health topic of the month.  These handouts come from the VA National Center of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NCP).  Learn about the HealthierUS Veterans programs from NCP at www.prevention.va.gov

Clinic waiting rooms are stocked with a variety of health information handouts. Look for the clear plastic displays in your primary care clinic.

Krames on Demand™ and CareNotes™  are patient education handout systems that staff can use to teach patients about their care or health conditions.  Special instructions can also be added for the patient.

The Medical Library staff helps patients and their families find health and wellness information.  The Medical Library is located on the 2nd floor of the A-wing in room A-2009.

Inpatient Education

Clinical patient education begins when you are admitted and occurs during your stay.  If you have any questions about your care, please ask a staff member.  At discharge, we'll give you instructions about how to take care of yourself when you get home.  We want you to feel that:

  • you are getting the information you need to take care of yourself;
  • you are able to ask questions about your health;
  • your needs are being met during your hospital stay.

VA Television Network

Our Patient Education Channel is on channel 5.  Our Inpatient Education Channel is channel 10. A variety of health education videos are shown throughout the day.  Ask your nurse for a Patient Education Channel Guide.
