INTRODUCTION
Job Corps is America’s largest residential training and employment program for low-income young adults. Funded by Congress and administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps has been training students for careers since 1964. The goal is to connect graduates to the labor force and prepare them for self-sufficiency by providing comprehensive and relevant academic, career technical, workforce preparation and independent living skills along with support services leading to:
- Successful careers in high-demand industry sectors or occupations that will result in economic self-sufficiency and opportunities for advancement.
- Enrollment in postsecondary education or apprenticeship programs that lead to long-term attachment to the labor force.
- Responsible citizenship.
Job Corps is authorized under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA) of 2014. Policies and requirements for operation of the Job Corps program are contained in the Job Corps’ Policy and Requirements Handbook, PRH.
