Program for Research Integrity Development & Education (PRIDE)

The mission of VA's Program for Research Integrity Development & Education (PRIDE) is to protect participants in VA human research. PRIDE is responsible for: all policy development and guidance for human research protection in the VA; all training and education in human research protection throughout the VA; ensuring all VA facilities with Federalwide Assurances attain Full Accreditation; and creating and implementing the VA Central IRB. PRIDE's Vision is to make VA human research as safe as possible. PRIDE is excited to be working closely with the talented and dedicated people throughout the VA to create a culture of shared responsibility and accountability that holds the protection of VA human research participants as its highest goal.

VA has signed a MOU with the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Central IRB. VA is piloting the process for registration with the NCI Central IRB in a few VA facilities. Once the process is established, registration with the NCI Central IRB will be open to VA facilities participating in NCI studies. For more information contact Marisue Cody at marisue.cody@va.gov.

Final Rule Issued: Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects (The Common Rule)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and fifteen other Federal Departments and Agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, have issued final revisions to the Common Rule. The Final Rule was published in the Federal Register on January 19, 2017.
