Body Art: Piercing, Tattooing, and Permanent Cosmetics

Body art establishments must be licensed or permitted to operate with approved practitioners by local health departments, which also conduct inspections of establishments. The General Sanitation Project of the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) facilitates rule development and interpretation and assists local health authorities with investigations of reported infections.

For questions regarding microblading, micropigmentation, permanent cosmetics, tattooing, or piercing contact bodyart@doh.nj.gov.
