Funded Areas

CDC supports state, territorial, local, and tribal education and health agencies to improve the health and well-being of our nation’s youth. These agencies apply for and receive funding in one or more of the following areas: school-based HIV/STD prevention; and school-based surveillance, including the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and the School Health Profiles (Profiles).

CDC also supports non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide intensive technical assistance and capacity-building support to local and state education agencies to improve health and educational outcomes among adolescents.

State, territorial, local, and tribal agencies are currently funded by CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) under Notice of Funding Opportunity PS-18-1807 (August 1, 2018 – July 31, 2023).

School-based HIV Prevention

CDC funding is used to work with schools to implement school-based programs and practices designed to reduce HIV and other STDs among adolescents, including strengthening sexual health education (SHE), increasing adolescent access to key sexual health services (SHS), and establishing safe and supportive environments (SSE) for students.
