EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER

Indiana has been fortunate so far as to not experience the early winter weather of last year. However, while we don’t know the severity of the rest of the season, it is fair to anticipate that there will be a time with snow and other winter travel hazards predicted.

It is important that employees are aware of the expectations in reporting for duty during emergency situations such as inclement weather, catastrophic event, etc.
All employees are essential/critical to medical center operations and, therefore, all employees are expected to report to duty everyday regardless of an emergency situation such as inclement weather.  Leave requests made during emergency situations will be granted and approved ONLY if properly requested and after consideration of the needs of the medical center.  If you request leave and it is not approved because such absence would adversely affect operations and you choose to not report to work, you may be charged with AWOL and subsequently not be paid.

In the event of inclement weather, if you believe you may not be able to report to work, please pre-plan accordingly such as making arrangements to stay near the medical center, arrange appropriate transportation so that you can report to work, secure alternate day care arrangements, etc.

In the past, some staff have asked to sleep here at the medical center during predictions of inclement weather. If we are faced with predictions of inclement weather, staff will be notified of the opportunities for staying in the medical center as well as the mechanisms to sign up.

In keeping with the Indy Excellence standard of Commitment to Co-Workers, our Veterans and your co-workers depend on all of us to make every effort to be on duty.
As a health care facility, we have a high calling and a duty to provide services to our Veterans. The dedication of our staff is evident in what we do.

Thank you for your dedication to our Veterans during all situations and all weather.
