Accession Number prefixes: Where are the sequences from?
The official interface to the tables is CSeq_id::IdentifyAccession, it can be found in raw form in /opt/ncbi/apdata/accguide.txt (or /am/ncbiapdata/data/accguide.txt, which is available only on development systems but sometimes fresher).
