Funded Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs)
CDC supports 6 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) under PSl8-1807 to provide intensive technical assistance and capacity-building support to local and state education agencies to improve health and educational outcomes among children and adolescents.
Promoting Adolescent Health Through School-Based HIV/STD Prevention is intended to improve the health and well-being of our nation’s youth by working with education and health agencies, and other organizations to reduce HIV, STD, teen pregnancy, and related risk behaviors among middle and high school students. Organizations funded under Component 3, Technical Assistance and Capacity Building, are expected to provide intensive technical assistance and capacity-building support for education agencies on one of four approaches:
- strengthening the effectiveness of instructional materials and their delivery;
- strengthening the effectiveness of health services initiatives that reduce HIV infection and other STDs;
- strengthening the effectiveness of initiatives to create and maintain safe and supportive environments in schools; and
- addressing policy and practice in state education agencies.
