Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) can occur in babies who have been exposed to opioids, alcohol or other addictive substances while in the womb. It usually appears within 48–72 hours of birth.

Through partnerships and collaboration with other agencies, Maternal and Child Health Services works to improve access to health services and reduce disparities in health outcomes for the mothers, expecting mothers, children and teens in New Jersey.  We offer resources and services to individuals and families as well as perform critical research to increase our knowledge and ability to serve these groups.
