Integrated Award Environment (IAE)

The Integrated Award Environment (IAE) is a Presidential E-Government initiative managed by GSA. We use innovative processes and technologies to improve systems and operations for those who award, administer, or receive federal financial assistance (i.e.; grants, loans), contracts, and intergovernmental transactions.

Here you will learn about how GSA manages its current suite of federal award systems and its flight path to migrate key features of those systems into one, streamlined environment.

The IAE Digest is the IAE Program Management Office's (PMO's) quarterly newsletter. Published quarterly since FY14, The IAE Digest provides key leadership, program, and system updates.

The IAE melds the cloud, open source technologies, security, agile programming, and a DevOps deployment model to create the award management platform of the future.

The IAE is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) enabling federal agencies and others to develop, run, and manage awards management applications using IAE infrastructure and data.

Behind the PaaS platform is an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform offering identity management, data, and hosting options for IAE applications.

The open source technology stack powering the IAE means no vendor lock-in for technologies or contractors. The same open source technologies behind the IAE power some of the most popular highly-trafficked commercial websites.

Security is a foundation of the IAE. The IAE is building out its security infrastructure using leading security solutions including Nessus, a security vulnerability scanner, standard across multiple industries.

An IAE software development kit (SDK) and application programming interfaces (APIs) will enable federal and private organizations to jump start development of IAE applications. In fact, these organizations may learn how to use APIs to build their own systems with certain IAE system data by visiting the openIAE site on GitHub (Note: This link goes to a nongovernment website).

IAE developers are adopting agile programming and DevOps practices to iterate on new features and deploy them to the IAE production systems under aggressive timelines.

The awards management community will be able to use the IAE to gain transparency into a growing amount of federal government acquisitions data they can use to be even more successful in their business and operational pursuits.

The following section explains the scope and magnitude of the current IAE systems through Fiscal Year 2018:

• The IAE systems have an average of 1.7 million users; In SAM alone, there's an average of 621,000 active registered entities which includes an average of more than 59,000 new or renewed registrants.
• More than $3.98 Trillion in federal awards annually and an average of 4.4 million transactions per month are reported in IAE systems.
• The IAE systems generate more than 498 million hits or page views per month, including an average of almost 4.5 million searches per month in SAM alone.
