VA Privacy Service advises on matters with privacy impact. Staffed by a team of professionals knowledgeable in the protection of veterans’ privacy and the safeguarding of personally identifiable information (PII) used by VA programs and information systems, we provide subject-matter expertise on:

  • the Privacy Act of 1974, Section 208 of the E-Government Act of 2008, Office of Management and Budget guidance, and VA privacy policy;
  • required compliance documentation including privacy threshold analyses (PTA), privacy impact assessments (PIA), system of record notices (SORN), and computer matching agreements;
  • data breach and incident response procedures;
  • mandated privacy training for all VA employees and specialized training for privacy officers; and,
  • other privacy-related requirements
