Up to 2.75 million fall chinook fry are headed to the Minter Creek Hatchery in Pierce County in an effort to replace salmon lost during a Dec. 14 power outage at the facility. Several tribal co-managers have already agreed to the transfer, as required by NOAA-Fisheries.

State fish and wildlife managers are asking anglers and other boaters to avoid an area along the west side of San Juan Island in an effort to protect a dwindling population of southern resident killer whales.
