Workforce Recruitment Program
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is strongly committed to the employment
of individuals with disabilities, including Veterans and individuals with targeted
disabilities. VA strives to be the model employer for individuals with disabilities
and meet the Secretary’s three percent hiring goal for individuals with targeted
disabilities. In keeping with these efforts, VA participates in the Workforce
Recruitment Program (WRP), a government-wide program co-sponsored by the Department
of Defense and the Department of Labor. The goal of the program is to increase the
representation of individuals with disabilities, especially severe disabilities, in
the Federal and private workforce.
VA recruits WRP interns through the www.wrp.gov website.
This is the largest government-wide database of Schedule A eligible candidates. Schedule A,
under 5 CFR, 213.3102(u) is an excepted service appointing authority that serves as a
critical and efficient tool for hiring individuals with physical, psychiatric, and
intellectual disabilities. Internships are typically held during spring (March through
May) and summer (June through August) months.
Students and recent graduates with disabilities who may be interested in a possible
internship at the VA under the WRP should contact Aurelia Waters, Departmental WRP
Manager, at (202) 461-4124 or Aurelia.Waters@va.gov.
VA facilities and offices who are interested in hiring WRP interns and need guidance
should contact Aurelia Waters, Departmental WRP Manager, at (202) 461-4124 or Aurelia.Waters@va.gov.
Thank you for your support of diversity and inclusion in VA!
