Resources for Clinical Trainees

VA oversees the largest health professions training program in the nation. Each year, over 100,000 medical and associated health students, residents and fellows receive some or all of their clinical training in VA facilities through affiliations with over 1,200 educational institutions including 112 medical schools.

VA facilities around the country have affiliation agreements with universities, colleges and medical schools.
Check with the program coordinator at your school to see if they have an agreement with VA for your clinical training program.

Application Forms
Application Forms must be completed by all clinical trainees. Some forms are required of all trainees. Additional forms may be required depending on your clinical training program.
See your local program coordinator to find out which forms are required.
Learners' Perceptions Survey
The Learners' Perceptions Survey asks all of our clinical trainees to rate their VA training. As you come to the end of your training rotation at VA, your program coordinator will ask you to take this anonymous survey. Your feedback will help us identify areas of excellence and areas where we need to improve.
Mandatory Training
Mandatory Training is required for all clinical trainees. This online course covers a wide range of topics, including: VA's Mission, safety, information security, privacy, ethics, health records, VA Career opportunities, and more.

Military Health History Pocket Card
The Military Health History Pocket Card is issued to all clincal trainees. This card gives an overview of health issues of particular concern to our Veteran patients. The card and website include links to valuable information on those issues.

Resident Supervision Pocket Card
The Resident Supervision Pocket Card is issued to each physician resident. It includes tips and requirements on documentation in the patient health record.
