What is DHS YES? The DHS Youth Empowerment Series (YES) is a fun program that works with high school students who are passionate about helping to create stronger families for a stronger Georgia. During the school year, DHS YES participants will attend four meetups during which they will develop their leadership skills through meaningful conversations and workshops with state leadership, examine critical issues that face Georgia youth and participate in community service.
What happens in DHS YES? During YES meetings/gathering, members will:
- Discuss issues and share views with excited leadership and special guests
- Collaborate and create suggestions for solution-driven dialogue
- Support peers in personal and professional growth
- Participants develop both personally and professionally through workshops, conversation and service opportunities
- Participants work alongside their peers
- Participants build meaningful relationships with peers and mentors
- Participants meet and network with DHS leadership
- Participants gain an important support system which allows greater success in the future
- Participants make an impact and have fun while doing it!
Who is eligible to join DHS YES?

Applicants must be enrolled in a Georgia high school for the 2018 – 2019 school year
- Applicants must demonstrate promise in the following areas:
- Academic Achievement
Student has exhibited persistence and interest in learning. - Attendance
Student’s attendance record must demonstrate the student’s adherence to the established policies and procedures of the local board of education and adherence to mandatory state school attendance policies. - Discipline and Behavior
A student must not have more than two total combined Level I and/or Level II disciplinary infractions or one Level III disciplinary infraction and no out-of-school suspensions, as defined by Georgia’s Progressive Discipline Model
- Academic Achievement
- Applicants must be passionate about enacting change in his/her community
- Applicants must be willing to be a representative of his/her peers
- Applicants must be willing to meet four times throughout the school year if selected to participate
I am a rising high school freshman. Can I still apply?
Yes. Because the program will take place during the 2018-2019 school year, rising 9th graders are eligible to apply.
Where will DHS YES meetings occur?
The quarterly meetups will be held on Saturdays in a location based on region. After the participants are selected, a list meetings dates and locations will be released to those participants and their families.
Is DHS YES boring?
NO! All events that participants attend are designed to be engaging, fun, innovative and creative in order to stimulate change and impact!
