Community

You have the ability to improve the health resilience of family, friends, neighbors, and your community at large through your actions. Seek out and help raise awareness of resources and training and volunteer opportunities in your community that can help individuals protect their health until help arrives. Simple things, such as posting a #SafeAndWellSelfie to social media and sharing a link to the Ready Wrigley activity books with your child’s teacher, can help create community resilience.

Quick Tips

  • Talk to family and friends about how to prepare for an emergency. Research by FEMA shows that talking about preparedness increases the likelihood of others taking steps to get prepared.
  • Volunteer with a local faith-based or non-government organization involved in disaster response.
  • Build a personal support network of people who can provide transportation or evacuation assistance if you are an older adult, have a disability, or live alone.
  • Train with the National Weather Service (NWS) to become a NWS SKYWARN Storm Spotter.
  • Join your workplace emergency team or start a CERT program at work. CERT has trained some 600,000 volunteers nationwide.
