Using available observations and a post-landfall hindcast simulation of SLOSH, the NHC's Storm Surge Unit estimates peak storm surge inundation values of 9-14 ft from Mexico Beach eastward through Apalachee Bay. Highest surge is estimated near Mexico Beach and Port St. Joe.

Here's a quick info-graphic describing how to most effectively use the Potential Storm Surge Flooding Graphic. It's simplistic in that the water levels depicted describe the height above ground that water could reach at a given location.pic.twitter.com/vHB9DWLv3s

Using available observations & a post-landfall SLOSH hindcast,
@NWSMoreheadCity &@NHC_Surge estimate peak storm surge induced inundation of 8-11 ft AGL in the Neuse River & its tributaries. These initial estimates do not account for freshwater flooding & will be verified/updatedThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo -

A life-threatening storm surge is expected from
#Florence, particularly along the North Carolina coast between Cape Fear and Cape Lookout, including western Pamlico Sound and the Pamlico and Neuse Rivers. Water levels are already quickly rising in these areas@NHC_Surgepic.twitter.com/wyxrp20CGJThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo -
Given the rarity of the magnitude of
#Florence's storm surge forecast, it can be hard to grasp what that might look like or the impacts it could have on your community. We ask that you heed evacuation orders for your area if issued by local authorities. Time is running short!pic.twitter.com/Tg6wQnJMvKThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better.
