Legal Status
Government Contracts
The procurement and acquisition process for executive branch agencies is governed by the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs). The FARs define the acquisition process, provide contracting guidance, implement special preference programs, and include specific language for many of the clauses found in government contracts. Most major agencies also have additional regulations in FAR supplements. The FARs and FAR supplements appear in title 48 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Government Accountability Office regulations on Federal procurement practices appear in title 4, subchapter B of the CFR.
