Prevention and Evaluation Activity

The Prevention and Evaluation Activity (PEA) aims to reduce the impact of enteric illnesses by identifying ways to prevent and control outbreaks of Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria infections transmitted through food and animal contact.

PEA conducts prevention activities in collaboration with the other teams in ORPB, other Branches in DFWED, and with external public health partners at the federal, state, and local level.

The Prevention and Evaluation Activity:

• Identifies evidence-based tools and strategies for the prevention and control of multistate enteric disease outbreaks.
• Evaluates the processes by which ORPB and DFWED respond to multistate foodborne and animal contact outbreaks.
• Maintains partnerships with stakeholders to facilitate collaboration, develop new prevention projects, and create venues for disseminating prevention recommendations.
• Collects, analyzes, and interprets data from multistate foodborne and animal contact outbreaks to identify outbreak trends and prevention opportunities.
• Communicates with the public and public health and industry partners regarding best practices for foodborne and enteric zoonotic outbreak prevention.
• Examines the science behind outbreak causes and control measures to evaluate prevention recommendations.
