Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet yesterday was named chairman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure. The Finance Committee also named new chairs on three of its other subcommittees after Senator Ron Wyden was appointed chair of the full committee.
As chair of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over energy taxation, Bennet will work to advance the discussion of comprehensive energy tax reform that makes sense for today’s economy and helps provide certainty and parity for Colorado’s diverse energy industry. Additionally, the subcommittee will look to address the immediate and long-term challenges of making critical infrastructure investments that will help rebuild and repair roads, bridges, dams, and energy infrastructure throughout the state and the nation.
“As long as we insist on having an outdated tax code, we are going to have a hard time certifying that we have a set of policies and strategies that are relevant to the 21st century economy,” Bennet said. “This is not a debate of left versus right, but past versus future innovation. I look forward to examining our tax code to ensure it adequately supports a diverse and cleaner energy portfolio and allows us to make crucial investments in our infrastructure to remain competitive in the global and changing economy.”
