Wilmington, DE (July 27, 2005) – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) today announced that Delaware housing authorities will receive a combined total of $5,491,325 in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Capital Fund program. Delaware has received a total of four grants ranging from $140,493 to $4,029,472. The money will be used for general public housing upgrades, including appliance replacement, lighting improvements, air conditioning replacement and general building maintenance. “This is great news for the Delaware agencies that were awarded grants, and even better news for those Delawareans who will benefit from their services,” said Sen. Tom Carper. “The ability to own a home not only helps people gain financial stability but it also gives people a sense of pride that benefits everyone—including the community.” Capital Fund program monies will be used toward a variety of activities including modernization, development, financing and management improvements. The nearly $5.5 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development breaks down as follows: $827,148 for the Delaware State Housing Authority $494,212 for the Dover Housing Authority $140,493 for the Newark Housing Authority $4,029,472 for the Wilmington Housing Authority
