Sen. Tom Carper addressed members of the Sussex County Association of Towns to update them on the work that he’s doing in Washington as part of Delaware’s Congressional Delegation.

Among that work, he says, is working to build up what he calls the “modest” pace of economic recovery in Sussex County and nationwide.

He says that among the work the Congressional Delegation does benefits some of the key industries in Sussex County. This includes acquiring funding for beach replenishment in the eastern part of the county, which benefits the tourism industry. It also includes the signing this past fall of trade agreements with Columbia, Panama and South Korea that will open those markets to more American products, including Delaware-raised chicken. Those trade agreements will accomplish that goal by either reducing or eliminating tariffs that had previously been imposed on American-raised poultry.
