Rep. Davis is Originial Co-Sponsor of Legislation to Ban the Sale, Transfer, Production and Importation of Weapons of War

ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN OF 2018
Protecting America’s Communities from Weapons of War
The legislation will ban the sale, transfer, production, and importation of the following:
? All semi-automatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one of the following military features: (1) pistol grip; (2) forward grip; (3) folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; (4) grenade launcher or rocket launcher; (5) barrel shroud; or (6) threaded barrel.
? All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one of the following military features: (1) threaded barrel; (2) second pistol grip; (3) barrel shroud; (4) capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip; or (5) semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.
? All semi-automatic rifles that have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
? All semi-automatic shotguns that have at least one of the following (1) a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; (2) fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds; (3) ability to accept a detachable magazine; (4) forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or (5) shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
? All ammunition feeding devices (magazines, strips, and drums) capable of accepting more than 10 rounds
? 205 specifically-named and listed firearms.
The legislation will exempt the following:
? 2,258 legitimate hunting and sporting rifles and shotguns named by specific make and model.
? Any weapon that is lawfully possessed at the date of the bill’s enactment.
? Any firearm manually operated by a bolt, pump, lever or slide action.
? Assault weapons used by military, law enforcement, and retired law enforcement.
? Antique weapons.
How is this bill different from the 1994 version of the AWB?
? The legislation moves from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test to define an assault weapon, and makes the ban more difficult to circumvent by eliminating removable bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test.
? Bans dangerous after-market modifications and workaround, including bump and slide fire stocks, “bullet buttons,” and thumbhole stocks.
? Adds a ban on the importation of assault weapons and large capacity magazines.
? Eliminates the 10-year sunset that allowed the original federal ban to expire.
? (Added to 2015 bill) Extends the NICS background check period from 3 business days to 14 business days before a federal firearms licensee can transfer a grandfathered assault weapon without a conclusive determination from the system.
