“I am humbled to have had the opportunity to improve legislation to ensure the bills we pass work for the people of Michigan’s Ninth District.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09) has been commended by the Chair of the House Committee on Rules, Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-02), for passing the second most amendments in the 116th Congress among freshman members of Congress.

“As we come to the end of this historic legislative session, I write to thank you for all the thoughtful amendments you submitted to the Rules Committee. These amendments demonstrate your passion for serving the people you represent! Your hard work has led to you having the second most amendments made in order among freshmen Members of the House!” wrote Chairman McGovern in a letter. “I want to especially highlight your amendment to H.R. 729, which required the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to research the effects of PFAS chemicals, mercury, and other contaminants on fisheries and fishery ecosystems in the Great Lakes Basin region. This amendment showed your continued dedication to protecting the public health of your constituents and a vital industry of your great state.”

“I am deeply grateful to Chairman McGovern for this recognition,” said Rep. Levin. “I have worked to pass meaningful legislation for my constituents and working people across the country. My amendments have placed a moratorium on oil, gas and methane hydrate-related seismic activities in the Atlantic Ocean, increased oversight at the Department of Education, required the Secretary of Defense to ensure that all incineration of PFAS is safe for people and the environment and more.
