Rep. Maxine Waters, HACLA Deliver Masks & COVID-19 Testing Info to Avalon Gardens Public Housing Residents

LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Chair of the House Committee on Financial Services, and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) distributed non-surgical, washable masks and the location of local COVID-19 testing sites to residents of Avalon Gardens Public Housing Development on Friday, June 5.

Last month, Congresswoman Waters called for HACLA to provide masks for public housing residents in order to protect the health and well-being of her constituents and vulnerable communities during the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, HACLA received 25,000 masks to share with public housing residents. Avalon Gardens Public Housing Development, which is located in Congresswoman Waters’ district, is one of many public housing sites that will receive the free masks.

“It is imperative that all public housing residents have access to masks during the coronavirus pandemic, which has already impacted more than 64,000 Los Angeles County residents and caused the death of more than 2,600 members of our community,” said Congresswoman Maxine Waters. “During this unprecedented crisis, we cannot forget about the needs of public housing residents. I am so pleased that the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) heeded my request to distribute masks to its residents, and I was proud to join with HACLA President & CEO Doug Guthrie to safely distribute masks and the location of COVID-19 testing sites to my constituents in Avalon Gardens.”
