Foreign Affairs
As the world’s most powerful country, the United States has a responsibility to aggressively pursue initiatives that alleviate poverty, promote democracy and human rights, improve lives, and stabilize communities in the developing world. Accounting for only one percent of the overall federal budget, America’s modest commitment to foreign assistance and diplomacy supports proven strategies like long-term development, post-conflict reconstruction, and humanitarian assistance.
In Congress, I have worked to advance a robust American leadership role in advancing international development, global health, and human rights. As the co-chair of the Global Health Caucus, I have championed legislation to improve maternal and child health, combat global hunger and make key investments in agricultural development, and to protect young girls in developing countries from early and forced marriages. I strongly support the funding needed to meet our global commitments, improve lives, and ensure stability around the world.

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) and others today introduced the Israeli Annexation Non-Recognition Act, a bill to prohibit the United States from formally recognizing or providing U.S. aid to any area of the occupied West Bank annexed by the Government of Israel in violation of international law.

INTRODUCTION
On August 14, 2020, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) and colleagues introduced the Israeli Annexation Non-Recognition Act (H.R. 8050) a bill to prohibit the United States from formally recognizing or providing U.S. aid to any area of the occupied West Bank annexed by the Government of Israel.
In a statement submitted for the Congressional Record, Congresswoman McCollum said:
Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) and colleagues have introduced the Hmong and Lao Refugee Deportation Prohibition Act of 2020 to stop the Trump administration from deporting individuals to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (P.D.R.) for 72 months while individuals with Final Orders for Removal have their immigration cases reassessed. The Trump administration is currently negotiating with the Lao P.D.R. on a repatriation agreement that would deport at least 4,700 individuals to Laos.
Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) and Congresswoman Susan Brooks (IN-05), Co-Chairs of the Global Health Caucus, have introduced a resolution in support of the live-saving work of GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance. H.Res.861 highlights GAVI’s twenty years of success in saving the lives of children in the world’s poorest countries by improving access to new and underutilized vaccines. Since 2000, 760 million children have received immunizations, preventing the deaths of more than 13 million people.
