Rep. Davis Statement on the Congressional Progressive Caucus 2017 Budget

The Congressional Progressive Caucus budget is a comprehensive overhaul of our national priorities addressing the most urgent economic and social problems we confront in a sustainable and democratic manner.  It continues and builds upon previous CPC budgets and the legislative work of the CPC.

The budget invests in America with $1 trillion in infrastructure.  It would create 3.6 million jobs and reduce the unemployment rate to 4%.  It fully funds Early Head Start and makes debt free college a reality for all students.  It provides a plan to reduce poverty by half in ten years and enhances the social safety net.  It brings progressivity and fairness to individual and corporate taxes.  It set out a predictable and rational plan for defense spending.  The CPC budget aims at long term sustainability and over the medium term reduces the deficit.

The CPC budget allows states to transition to single-payer health care system and expands access to mental health care and treatments for opioid and heroin addiction.  It invests in clean, renewable, and efficient energy and green manufacturing, imposes a fair carbon tax and invests billions to replace toxic pipelines.  It invests $11 billion to end family homelessness and increases funding for veterans supportive housing.

The complete CPC budget can be found here and a detailed analysis by the Economic Policy Institute can be found here.

I am a strong supporter of the 2017 Congressional Progressive Caucus budget.  I urge everyone to read it and to compare it to the plan put forward by President Trump.
