#CA51VeteranOfTheDAy is MICHAEL JOHN QUIRK NOMINATED BY MEAGHAN QUIRK

"I want to nominate my husband: Michael John Quirk, a veteran of the US Navy who served for 16 years (2004-2020). He is currently serving the US Navy Reserves to continue his service to our nation. He is special to me and deserves this honor, because he is a hard-working sailor who never seeks recognition or credit, but DOES his work without hesitation and with zest, and a passion for helping others and bu...ilding community with them. He has transferred that mentality into his civilian job which he transitioned into earlier this year working at Navy Base San Diego. In 16 years of service, Michael has been stationed in San Diego twice-- choosing it both times because he loved everything this area has to offer. Michael has served onboard ships deploying most of the year for 9 years straight (3 different ships), and served the other 7 years as Base Security, working closely with the civilian component around San Diego as well. With NBSD being such a large Naval hub, keeping it safe, secure, and accountable is a tough but important job, and he did it masterfully every day. He is a model citizen and sailor, and he greatly deserves this honor! Please recognize my husband, Petty Officer Second Class (MA2) Michael Quirk for this honor for the day!"

#CA51VeteranOfTheDay is Chris Khabbaz nominated by Gregory E. Knoll, Esq.

"Chris is a proud Navy veteran with a passion for helping his fellow veterans.

During his 5-year career in the Navy, Chris was trained as a mechanical engineer and served as a mentor to his junior team members. Chris also provided case management and assistance to military personnel with mental and physical disabilities. This experience makes Chris a valued team member here at the Legal Aid Society of... San Diego, where many of our clientele experience mental health challenges.

A lifelong football player, Chris earned his Associate Degree in Administration of Justice while playing football. A neck injury caused him to hang up his cleats. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Point Loma Nazarene College in 2018. During college, Chris was an intern with San Diego Crime Stoppers. Between working there, working with sailors with disabilities, and his own difficulties, he knew he wanted to help people and that he never wanted to work just for a paycheck. He wanted to make a difference. He does this every day at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, advocating for his clients and improving their lives."

Chris lives in D. 51 with his wife Melissa (his 6th grade sweetheart!) and their son Royce."
