SOCIAL SECURITY
In 1935 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the original Social Security Act into law. It’s been amended and remains one of our most important social insurance and social welfare programs. Most legal residents of the United States have a Social Security number. Answers to frequently asked questions about Social Security can be found here.
Everyone with a Social Security number can set up an account to see estimates of their future benefits, see Statements and review their earning history. With an account you can request a replacement card or check on the status of benefits.
The Social Security Administration has online services that allow you to apply for retirement benefits, disability benefits, Medicare benefits, change your address, print benefit statements and more.
If you are unable to use the online services the Social Security Administration phone number is 1-800-772-1213.
You can also email the Social Security Administration.
