Congressional Art Competition
Congressional Art Competition
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. I am delighted to participate in this competition, providing students in New York's 16th Congressional District the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Students living in NY-16 enter the competition by sending a release digital photograph of the artwork to engelartcompetition@mail.house.gov by the date specified each year. Check back here for details when the 2020 competition is announced. The artwork is then brought to our District Art Competition, where a panel of art experts in the district selects the winner. Winning art work is displayed in the U.S. Capital for a year. Some winners, upon acceptance to an art and design school, may also be eligible to receive a scholarship.
Educators and students can learn more about the competition, including specification for the artwork and release forms, on the House of Representatives website:

Congratulations to our past winners!
