The Oregon and California Railroad Revested Lands, known as the O&C Lands, lie in a checkerboard pattern through eighteen counties of western Oregon. These lands contain more than 2.4 million acres of forests with a diversity of plant and animal species, recreation areas, mining claims, grazing lands, cultural and historical resources, scenic areas, wild and scenic rivers, and wilderness. Most of the O&C lands are administered by the Bureau of Land Management.

Before your adventure begins on public lands, make sure you are aware of local fire restrictions. Nationally, an estimated 87% of wildfires are human-caused and are preventable. Be responsible while undertaking activities that may spark a fire.

Much of the BLM-administered rangelands are grazed by livestock under a system of permits and leases for which ranchers pay annually-adjusted grazing fees.

BLM Oregon/Washington manages over 3.4 million acres of National Conservation Lands including an outstanding natural area, a cooperative management and protection area, national monuments, wilderness areas, wilderness study areas, wild and scenic rivers, and national scenic and historic trails.
