Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are germs that are spread from person to person through sexual contact. STDs may be caused by viruses (HIV, HPV), bacteria (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis) or parasites (pubic lice or crabs, trichomonaisis). The Health Department is focused on the bacterial infections that are reportable conditions in Vermont (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis). We provide support services to Vermonters who are newly diagnosed with bacterial infections. We can help people better understand what their STD diagnosis and treatment means for them. On a free and voluntary basis, we can assist people diagnosed with bacterial STDs to notify their sexual partners and link these partners to STD testing or treatment.
